Position Overview:
The Planning Director is a pivotal managerial and supervisory role within our organization. As the department head, you will assume overall responsibility for planning, code enforcement, subdivision/land development, and zoning for Peters Township. This position is instrumental in monitoring trends and making recommendations for the physical development of the Township, adopting, revising, and implementing the comprehensive plan and ordinances designed to implement the provisions of the plan.
In addition to the key responsibilities outlined below, the Planning Director will manage personnel in accordance with union contracts and Township policies. Direct supervision includes the Assistant Planner/Zoning Officer, Inspectors/Code Enforcement, and Land Use Planner, ensuring their efficient and effective performance. The role involves reviewing and evaluating environmental impact reports, directing the Township’s Comprehensive Master Plan and related ordinances, and participating in design problem discussions and development plan reviews. The Planning Director prepares reports, budget requests, and oversees departmental finances, adhering to procurement protocols. Attending meetings, conducting subdivision and site plan reviews, coordinating code enforcement activities, and representing the Township professionally are crucial. Providing public information on planning matters and maintaining document integrity round out the role's diverse responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze trends to guide the physical development of Peters Township.
- Spearhead the implementation of the upcoming Peters Township Comprehensive Plan Update
- Provide expert guidance and staff assistance to the Planning Commission, Zoning Hearing Board, Construction Appeals Board, and the Township Manager.
- Manage the Planning Department's people, finances, and resources to meet present and future needs.
- Ensure the highest standards of professional conduct and safety are adhered to.
- Align administrative and operational policies with the Township Manager's direction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in planning, zoning, and code enforcement.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of local and state planning regulations.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications.
- AICP certification or meet qualifications to take AICP Examination
